June 2008 Becky's News

Becky was told by her Doctors that her transplant date was about 12 weeks out and that she was to go up to UCLA for a complete physical, heart test etc with the Transplant team. She did that and all her toxin levels screamed that she should be transplanting ASAP......But her heart and circulation are all good and the Dr's are now wondering if she should wait .

They told her when she gets the Transplant, she will have to go right back on the list again - as transplanted organs only last up to 10 years (if you are lucky). So after many discussions they decided that they will wait for a few different possibilities:

#1 - A young donor comes up with both a kidney and pancreas that she is a good match to.
#2 - She goes on Dialysis and her body starts to become very weak.
#3 - She starts having more bad days than good (then they will use her brother Jeff for the kidney and wait for a Pancreas)

No matter which decision she makes, once she does the transplant, the fact remains that she will be placed right back on the list again . Because she is young and they KNOW that she will need another before her life is over. That is very depressing news for her.

That being said - She is not in a rush to get the transplant anymore. She would rather raise more of the needed money and wait until the body she has now is completely maxed out, because her body with new organs will not mean a longer or better life at this point.

The positive thing that the transplant will hopefully bring is no more attacks and no more seizures. That is the toughest part.

For the time being - Her good days still out-weigh the bad. So she will hold on as long as possible and hopefully the anti-rejection drugs will keep getting better and the longevity of the transplanted organs will get better.

Until this happens - all we can do is pray for more miracles.
